Chic Interview with Ligne Agency's Meredith Xavier!

We chatted with Meredith Xavier, principal of Ligné Agency - one of the top distribution/PR firms in the Interior Design industry last week.
We got the scoop on why she is definitely a Chic CEO. Here, she tells us how she got her start!
1. Why did you decide to work for yourself?
I've always been very driven, that constant "on a mission" attitude - and I knew that unless I worked for myself, there was always going to be some form of ceiling hovering over me.  I quit my previous job without even thinking, I just knew that the only way I was going to get where I wanted to be in my career was to be out on my own.  I do have an incredible team working behind me, and I challenge myself to be a leader that not only works from my own vision, but takes into consideration the viewpoints and ideas of my team.  

2. Tell us what makes Ligne Agency different.
Ligné Agency is truly a full service business development firm.  We help our clients with everything from writing their business plans to getting their products distributed to handling their public relations and marketing.  Our niché is the luxury shelter industry, so our clients are interior designers, product designers, art galleries or boutique hotels.  We are driven by amazing high-end design, and have a passion for the design industry.  When people ask what Ligné Agency does, I typically don't know where to start.  We really do it all, because at the end of the day we are hired to make our clients flourish - whether it's to gain more product sales or land more projects.   

3. Now that you've gotten your business off the ground, what do you wish you would've known before you got started?
A class on business basics wouldn't have hurt.  I dove in with an idea and a passion, but little knowledge about setting up payroll and the legal logistics of running a business.  I taught myself along the way, but I know that I took the hard route on that one!  My best advice: budget for an accountant and save the headache at the end of the year.

4. What advice can you give to other Chic CEO's to help them on their entrepreneurial journey?
Be flexible and give your company the freedom to grow into the direction it is taken.  Ligné Agency is not the company today that it started as 2 years ago, and that is part of what I love about it the most.  Be open to opportunities, and don't let fear overcome you.  There are definitely days when you can't seem to get your head above water, but that is when it is important to breathe and remind yourself that you are on the path to building something really great, and the reward to all of the long hours in the office is more than worth it.
